HIFC Will Offer Photography Courses
In Conjunction with Bill Steber Exhibit
Houston Institute for Culture Featured Artist, Bill Steber recreates existing light in the environment with strobes. His proficient use of lighting makes it possible for him to confidently produce photographs of social interaction that accurately represent the environment. Examples of Bill Steber's photography can be found at www.houstonculture.org/artist.
We will offer Photography and Lighting Courses for artists who are interested in producing social documentaries on film or video, handling their own publicity, documenting their work, photographing their children, or improving their images in any capacity. Those interested should send an email to info@houstonculture.org, or call 713-521-3686. The Internet address is www.houstonculture.org/class.
Through the exhibit of Bill Steber's work and inexpensive photography courses, we hope to encourage more artists to produce social and cultural documentaries.
Courses will be taught by Mark Lacy who has experience producing award-winning photojournalism, commercial photography and broadcast video. Unlike most photography courses, the focus will be on lighting, which will help artists improve the quality of their work in any analogue or digital medium.
The cost of the eight-week course will be $75 and the proceeds will be used to bring artists like Bill Steber to Houston to give presentations and workshops. The start dates and locations for the on-going courses will be dependent on the number of interested participants. The expected dates for the first course are March 27 through May 15.
