Greetings,
We are celebrating Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month with an outstanding artistic and educational performance by Namita Bodaji, a classical Indian dancer from Bombay. She will perform at Rice University on Monday, May 5.
Namita explains the narrative and complex expressions in the dance pieces she performs, giving the audience a greater understanding of Indian culture and classical Indian dance.
Two young Indian dancers who are carrying on the Bharata Natyam tradition as Namita's students, Salome and Rhea, will also perform. Here are the two in classic poses:

Defining Cultural Literacy
Through nationalizing of culture and the global implications, we will explore and discuss the role of diverse cultures in politics, economy, environment and media, with a discussion about racism, public attitudes and stereotypes.
We will present several important topics in cultural literacy in the next e-culture newsletter on May 7 and tell you about an opportunity to discuss these important issues.
Please attend on Thursday, May 8, 2003 in the Olive Branch Room, Mary Knoll House, 2360 Rice Blvd. The program will begin at 7:30pm. The Mary Knoll House is between Rice University and The Village, four doors west of Greenbriar.
Koy Severino of kayumanggi will be our guest musician.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston presented Visible Magazine on Wednesday, April 30, before the showing of Frida, the 1984 film directed by Paul Leduc.
Visible Magazine, the magazine that celebrates the excellence of Hispanic, Iberian and Latin American art, culture and literature, will now be carried in the Museum's bookstore. Visible is in circulation nationwide, but copies are scarce in major Houston bookstores, so remember to pick it up at the Museum of Fine Arts on your next visit.
